The Best Way To Start Yoga As A Beginner
We’ve found that the best way for a beginner to start practicing yoga is to going a Yin or Gentle Flow Class. When you take the time to learn how to breath properly, and how to do the most common poses in a way that suits your body, you’ll not only receive more benefit from your practice, but you’ll also reduce your risk of strain and injury because you’ll know how to adapt the practice for your unique needs, right from the start.
Our studio fosters a non-competitive, community environment where no questions are off limits.
Yin Yoga: Perfect for folks who want to slow down, relax, and have a deep stretch. Poses are typically done seated or lying down, and held for several minutes each and are combined with meditation, and breathing exercises.
Gentle Flow: Perfect for folks who want to get moving again, and practice active yoga (standing & balancing poses) in a mindful, and accessible way. You will focus breathing, stretching, and gentle, active movement.

Some Common Questions About Beginners Yoga
-
While yoga does increase flexibility, you do not need to be flexible to start. Most of our students start out feeling stiff, and end up feeling more mobile after a few classes.
-
Our students range from age 7, to over 70. We pride ourselves in being a community-oriented studio, where all are welcome. Our beginners class is suitable as long as you are comfortable to get up and down from the floor. Also, please note, we are located up about 15 steps above street level. If you’d like to practice yoga, but getting up or down to the floor is a challenge, please ask about our private yoga lessons.
-
Absolutely. No prior yoga experience is necessary.
-
We suggest starting yoga with a class 1 x week. However, after several weeks, you will get the most benefit from a yoga practice if you can come 2-3 x per week.
-
We strongly recommend you start with our yin or gentle flow class as it will prepare you to attend any of the classes on our timetable. However, if you are already active, you might enjoy the stronger, and faster paced of our Flow classes.
